poster:Allison Posted on: 11:33 pm on Oct. 14, 2002 “I have to say I like this school's lunch policy, make your own sandwich. You'd think the Professor would go for something along the lines of steak tartar, but you can never go wrong with salami and onions on white bread, or peanut butter and jelly on wheat. Though it can make for wasted minutes at the buffet while you decide. Which is why one must come with a plan of attack, as well as a contingency plan, say Paige is hogging all the good jelly, you need to either go for a different flavor, or have an effective distraction planned, such as-" Claire interrupted me with a giggle, and I gave her a pointed look, "You think its funny now, but just you wait until you have to settle for raspberry jam instead of blackberry jelly because you didn't have a back up plan." "But I like raspberry jam," Jamie piped up. "It's called an example," I sighed, "Never mind, go get your sandwiches, be warned you are being graded." I ruffled their hair as they ran off to the other side table, I stayed and loaded up my sandwich with extra pastrami. I glanced around the hall looking for Sarah, Max or Sam. Sarah and Max were easy to find he was being all cuddly and she was pretending to be annoyed by the show of affection. I was just happy to see their love boat had made it back in to clear waters, and plopped down across from them grinning, "Hello, Sarah I just thought you should know, you've got a big hairy growth attached to your shoulders, what's it called again, a Max Stockard?" "Oh him? I just keep him around for the body heat," she grinned and winked at Max. "And she has a knack for picking up wet towels," Max added, nuzzling her shoulder. "How convenient," I said biting into my sandwich. "Yeah, well, works for us. I'm surprised you're eating up here. I figured you'd be spending time with Cameron." "I thought I'd grace you two with my presence, at least 'til the end of my sandwich," I winked. "Lucky us." Sarah fidgeted. "I, uh, thanks for dealing with me the other night and cleaning up my mess. I owe you." I shrugged, "No problem." "I'm sorry if you got in trouble for it." "I got some strange looks from Logan, but I didn't really see anyone else, of course, the vacuum cleaner sort of drowned out any possible lectures." "I'm glad. Jean can be quite a bitch." Max sighed, “Come on now…” Sarah just rolled her eyes. I shrugged, “She was pretty cool last night, and she’s been helping Cam. Speaking of, I’m gonna pop down there and visit him.” "Can I tag? I want to go see Cassie." "Sure, are you gonna make it a party, Max?" “Nah, I’ve got to talk with Ororo, about an up coming test, you two have fun,” he gave Sarah a kiss as they stood up. ~~~~~ When we got into the lab things were different than they had been last night, to say the least. There was a strange feeling in air as Jean and Hank stood the corner, looking in through some window and Kurt was behind them pleading. Cassie was gone from her normal spot and Cam was on the other side of the lab. I walked over to him, “Hey, what’s going on down here?” He sighed and gave me the abridged version, “It’s been tense for hours now,” he took my hand, “I’m glad you’re here.” I felt my insides getting kind of gooshy, “Glad to help.” “So Cassie’s awake?” Sarah asked. Cam nodded, “She’s over there.” He gestured towards the window where Hank, Jean and Kurt were gathered. Suddenly a loud scream tore through the room, “Let me out of here, bestia, or what I did to the boy will look like child’s play.” Hank did not appear affected by the comment, “Cassandrea, you need to calm down, let the Professor examine you.” We heard a voice hiss, “Never.” Sarah just looked at me, "Whoa." I nodded, “I see your ‘whoa’ and raise you an ‘oh shit’. And what was she talking about when she threatened Hank?” "Uh... me," said Cameron, struggling to sit up. “What do you mean you?” (Edited by Allison at 7:35 pm on Oct. 14, 2002)
poster: Amezri Posted on: 1:21 am on Oct. 16, 200 Hours. She had been stuck in her cell for hours. Snarling, growling, trying to manipulate them. Occasionally, the Cassandrea they knew would rise above the darkness. She would cry, begging them to let her free. At the moment, Hydra was in control. She felt them enter the room before she saw them. Sarah and the other. More targets. More pain. More fun. Smiling menacingly, Hydra drifted towards the glass window. "Cameron. Cameron, I.. I have something to say to you..." Her voice was level, calm. Calculated. Cameron walked slowly over to the cell. "Cassandrea," he said, his voice almost cracking. "I'm... I'm sorry, Cameron." "Cassie--" "I'm sorry that I left you alive. I was so close." Hydra's lips twisted into a smile. "So close to ending that miserable little existence you call a life." She screamed and slammed her fists against the glass. "Get him out of here, Hank!" Jean hissed. She and the Professor had been trying off and on to breakdown Cassandrea's mental barriers. Whatever Emma had done to her, they were having a hell of a time putting a dent in it. "Cassie, what the hell do you think you're doing?" Sarah spat, stepping right up to the transparent barrier. "Are you tell me that you tried to kill Cammo?" "How very observant," Hydra sighed with an apathetic wave. "Sarah, I think it would be best if you went back upstairs--" "No," Sarah said, cutting Jean off. "I think it would be *best* if I found out why my friend is acting like a psychopath." "Why don't you come on in and we can have a one-on-one conversation," Hydra sneared.
poster: Jen posted on: 10:52 pm on Oct. 16, 2002 “Maybe I will. I can knock some sense into your head." “Sarah I can’t a-” “Stuff it, Jean. I don’t give a rat’s ass what you think or what you’ll allow. I’m going in there so why don’t you start clearing the lab so no one else gets hurt?” Yes, *Doctor* Grey. Please let Sarah in here. I would so love a chance to have a discussion with her." Cassandrea’s face twisted in a sinister grin. “Sarah,” Hank interjected, “I don’t think that is wise. Cassandrea – we’re not sure that * is* Cassandrea, Sarah. Going in there is putting yourself at considerable risk.” “And if no one goes in there, are you going to have your questions answered or is she going to get any better?” “We will do what we can, Sarah, but how will it help her if you are injured?" "Oh, don't worry, Bestia. I won't hurt her. I might just... kill her." "Bigger men than you have tried girlie," Sarah sneered in her roommate’s direction before turning back to Hank. “Maybe hurting me will give Cassandrea the strength she needs to break Hydra’s hold. You said she wavered when Emma tried to hurt Kurt.” "We cannot guarantee that it will happen again and we will not risk your life in finding out," Hank said firmly. “It’s my life to risk.” "Why are you even having this conversation?” Annie snapped. “Flush the ungrateful bitch down the toilet." "We will not do anything that drastic, Annie. And Sarah, while I admire your chivalry, we need to explore other options first." “Fuck other options. Locking her in that cage isn’t… it isn’t right. You’re making things worse. She’s scared and she needs friends, not people glaring at her and coming up with ways to kill her. If that’s how you are going to treat her, we should have left her with Ben or Emma.” "Sarah, she tried to kill Cam. I don't understand why we should treat her like she's in Club Med, unless we want to toss her in the ocean." “I tried to kill Angelica. Should they have locked me in a little box and thrown away the key too?” Sarah asked, glaring at her friend. “Don’t answer that. I’m sure I don’t want to know.” "What the hell are you talking about-" "Annie, perhaps it would be best if you weren't near Cassie right now, your emotions are a bit high right now." "My emotions are exactly where I fucking wants them. Puta madre in there is where she should be too." “Leave. Now.” Sarah hissed, corralling Annie toward the door. “Or I will put you out.” "I'm not leaving Cam alone near that, especially when her fan club is out here." “Then take him with you before I see to it you can’t upset Cass further.” "Upset HER? I think with all the damage she's caused her feelings can take a little hit." “Annie, I think they’re right,” Cam offered, wincing as Jen helped him into a wheelchair. “We should go so they can help Cass. I’ll be fine.” “That’s it Greenie,” Cassandrea sneered. “Go tuck your boyfriend in. It may be your last chance.” Satisfied Annie was gone, Sarah returned to the Plexiglas wall. Cassandrea had returned to human form, but water still swirled around her and Sarah watched her for a moment, trying to determine her next move. “Are you coming in to play, Roomie? We could have lots of fun. At least I will.”
poster: cammogirl Posted on: 11:00 pm on Oct. 19, 2002 I did my best to wheel myself along the main corridor. It was hard - my arms were shaking and feeling hollow. Thing was, I didn't completely trust Annie to leave. She had a scary look in her eyes. I'd never seen her this mad before. "Annie," I said, "Forget about what's in there." I meant it. It wasn't Cassie, I knew that, and I didn't want her killed. "You want me to just forget that that psychoitc little shit who tried to kill you, was only a few feet away from you?" I sighed. "It wasn't Cassie, Ann. Emma Frost is an incredibly powerful telepathic mutant." I stopped powering the wheels of my chair a moment, stopping to rub my arm muscles. "Once she's in your head it's incredibly hard to shake the hold. Everything that happened - it wasn't Cassie okay? It wasn't Cassie." "Cassie's the one who went to her in the first place," Annie stated, before grabbing the handles on the wheelchair. I found myself being pushed towards the lift at an alaming speed. I gripped the arm-rests of the chair and glanced up to her. "Annie, she wasn't in her right mind. You know what happened to her before she left, don't you?" "I don't see what her life story has to do with you ending up mostly dead." "She got captured by a nutcase, Annie!" I grabbed the wheels in a bid to spin myself about, but ended up nearly tipping the chair over. Annie grabbed the chair and stopped it from toppling. "She was captured, and bound and gagged and we tried to get her out of there but we weren't expecting the captor to a mutant, especially not one as dangerous as Ben. We failed her, and she left, okay? She didn't feel safe here anymore." "She's got great judgement, that one does," Annie mumbled. "I told you, she wasn't psychologically sound at the time," I said. "Can you please just - just try to cut her a bit of slack and... and calm down a bit?" I turned the chair around, heading for the lift again. "It's not worth you getting so worked up over. I'm fine." "The training wheels there just scream *fine*," Annie said rolling her eyes. "Annie," I said, eyeing her firmly, a complete lack of amusement in my eyes. "This is serious." "I am serious. I seriously beleive she needs to be in as much pain as you." I blinked at her, then began viciously wheeling my chair to the lift. "Just forget about it." I heard her sigh behind me, "Dammit Cam, she hurt you, why am I the only one who remembers that?" "She didn't hurt me, Annie," I said firmly. "Emma hurt me. Emma betrayed Cassie. Emma took Cassie in her most vulnerable state and twisted her good will and used her." I looked over my shoulder to her. "Cassie's our friend, our comrade... our family. It's up to us to help save her. You get what I'm saying?" I saw her teeth clench before she shrugged, "Yeah sure." I sighed with some relief. I didn't expect her to accept it all straight away, but I at least wanted her to understand what I was saying. I tipped my head towards the lift. "Come on. I haven't had a proper meal in days. Let's raid the fridge." "There might still be some stuff from lunch, unless the vultures have already picked it clean." "Great," I smiled. "Let's go."
poster: Jen Posted on: 9:30 pm on Oct. 20, 2002 OOC: AAARRRGGG This was supposed to be Angelica My violin was fine. For once, the obscene downplaying that goes on around here wasn’t in evidence. I might not even fix it. It’s just my practice violin and it does give it some character. A battle scar of it’s own. Not as dramatic as the ones the others get, but special in its own way. I have hit bored. I’ve slept and I ate the snack Dr. McCoy left for me and slept some more. I’m hungry again, but I don’t think I’m up to going downstairs. Dang. I almost wish Annie would come back so I’d have someone to talk to. I was considering picking up the book Annie had left on the nightstand when a series of energetic knocks sounded at the door. One of Annie’s friends, no doubt. I slipped on my bed jacket to be decent for the visitor and called out an invitation. No sooner had the invitation been offered than the door burst open and three ten year-old girls bounced into the room. And all started talking at once. "HI Angelica!" "Are you feeling better?" "Will you be ok for lessons tomorrow?" "I've been practicing-" "She has! She sounds good." I seriously doubt that last part. Bless her heart, that girl tries, but she makes that poor instrument sound like a chorus of dying cats. Jamie’s not bad. She hasn’t learned to feel the music yet, but she’s showing a hint of it here and there. “Yes, I am feeing a bit better, thank you.” I bit my lip. I didn’t want to disappoint the girls, but I don’t think I’m up to three hours of lessons. I’m not up to going to get myself a bowl of soup. “Probably not tomorrow.” Jamie's face fell a little bit, but Claire quickly spoke up, mauve eyes shining, "Did you really save Cameron?" “Dr. Grey and Dr. McCoy saved him. I just helped a little bit.” "Annie said it was like magic," the smallest girl, I think her name is Maggie, said solemnly. Annie said that? Now that was amazing. “No more magic than when you make things fly. Or Kitty walks though walls, but,” I added with a yawn. “It takes a lot out of me.” "We brought some cookies," Jamie held up a small bag. "We would've got you a sandwich but we don't know what kind you like," Claire added. I smiled and opened the bag. “That was so kind of you. Oh! Sugar cookies. My favorite. Did you girls make these?” "Annie made them, but we decorated them," Maggie said. Well that explains the excessive sprinkles. “They are very pretty.” I took a small bite and was in heaven. I thought Annie’s coffee cake as good. These were a step and a leap above any I’d ever had before. I can see it no – ‘the baking cabbie’. "Do you think Annie would teach me how to bake like her?" that was Claire, looking hopeful, "You know, since I can't play violin..." I shudder to think what my roommate could do to this shy little girl, but it would be nice for her to have something she could do well. Around here, anyone who makes sweets is one small step below God. The attention would do her well – even if it means Annie becomes a major influence on her. And as Father always says ‘The pursuit of excellence builds character.’ I gave her a soft smile. “You could ask, but you might wish to wait a few days. Allow things to settle down.” She grinned, "Neat. Oh! You got phone call yesterday, from.... Dimitri?" My smile at his name must have given myself away, for they started laughing and jumping up on the bed. “Is that your boyfriend?” “Of course he’s her boyfriend silly,” Claire said officiously. As the eldest of the group she considered herself the leader, a fact the other girls were happy to fall in line with. “She got all dressed up for a date with him the other day.” “Is he cute?” Maggie screwed up her face. She obviously hadn’t gotten the hormone rush that brought about the interest in boys yet. “Did you kiss him?” "No, but we've only been on one date," I said, smiling. "That didn't matter to Annie and Cameron," Jamie giggled, "I saw them outside the other day, they kissed a lot." Oh now there was information I needed to hear and not a lesson they needed to learn. But with Rogue, Jubilee, Sarah and now Annie all exhibiting a total lack of morality, I guess that leaves me as the voice of reason, manners and ladylike behavior. “A lady does not kiss on a first date. Nor does she do so in public.” "I don't see why a lady would ever want to kiss a boy," Maggie said wrinkling her nose. I fought not to laugh. “Someday you will.” "Nuh uh," she denied. poster:Amezri Posted on: 11:29 pm on Oct. 21, 2002 With help from Jen! Thank you! Hydra sneared as she taunted Sarah. "Are you coming in to play, roomie? We could have lots of fun. At least I will." "I'd rather talk to Cassie, but if playing with you is what it takes..." "Bring it on, puta!" Hydra growled, shifting into a snake of water. Jean was set to stop this before someone got hurt or died. "Ms. Carmody, you will cease this behaviour immediately!" "Kiss my ass," Sarah sneered. Punching in the code for the cell she'd acquired during her time as Jean's lab bitch, she slipping into the isolation room and slammed the door behind her. "Sarah, no!" Jean shouted, seconds too late. /Shit./ {Professor, we have a situation down here. Sarah's entered Cassandrea's cell.} "You wanted me, Cass. Here I am." "Haven't you learned anything, girl? Cassandrea doesn't live here anymore." She coiled into an attack posture, ready to strike at the arrogant girl before her. Hydra considered this for a moment. Would Sarah really just sit there and take whatever she dished out? "Let's find out, shall we?" Once again in liquid human form, she morphed an arm into a long tentacle. "You really believe she wouldn't hurt you," Hydra mused, coiling the tentacle around Sarah's neck. "She probably wouldn't. But like I said, she's not here." With each word, she squeezed tighter, strangling the life out of the girl. Sarah closed her eyes and willed herself to be still even as blackness began to creep at the edge of her vision. She couldn't fight Hydra. She fought back the panic and spoke three soft words: "Do no harm." Hydra laughed at Sarah's desperation. "Do you think words can stop me? That I would just let you go because you quote the Wiccan Rede? Those words mean nothing. Still..." She lossened her hold, allowing Sarah the tiniest gasps of air. She leaned in close, a plan forming in her head. "We all have a dark side, don't we Sarah?" she whispered in the girl's ear. "If you helped me escape..." "You'd kill me the first chance you got. I'm not stupid." Sarah felt the pressure around her throat increase sharply before Cassie finally let go. "I.. Sarah...?" Her eyes were wide in horror. "What... I'm sorry. I... I can't control her. She's stronger than I am." Cassie backed into a corner, far away from Sarah. "Get out. Get out before she makes me hurt you again." "She's not stronger. You are. You can control her. I know you can. You have to fight her. Let Xavier in. He can help you." {Yes, Cassandrea, let us help you.} "No!" Cassie shrank further into her corner, covering her ears as if she were in pain. "I can't. She won't let me! Get out!" she shrieked. "Get out!"
Poster:Allison Posted on: 1:22 am on Oct. 22, 2002 I sat on the counter munching on some chips while Cameron started in on his second sandwich. He wasn’t kidding when he said he was hungry, he practically inhaled the first one and I had my doubts that this one would last much longer. I had to smile as I watched him, my bad mood fading, oh it was still there but it was just so nice to see him out of that hospital bed, I could even over look the wheel chair. Max loped in, scratching the back of his neck and frowning deeply. "Man I'm hungry. Hey Cam-" He then did a prompt and vastly amusing double-take. "Cam! Shit I thought you were comatose!" He jumped to Cameron and pulled him into a big hug. Cameron coughed. "Aaah... breathing's nice, Max..." Max only grinned at that. I tried not to laugh, “Try not to break him, boy’s been in the shop long enough.” The bright smile was still on Max's face when he said, "Sorry! Oh - have you guys seen Sarah?" I scowled, “She’s with the psyc-“ a look from Cam cut me off, “She’s with Cassie.” Max looked between Cameron and I. He put two and two together. "Hang on... Cassie..." "Is awake and putting Hannibal Lecter to shame." "And when you say *with* her..." I shrugged, “I dunno, she wanted to go in and talk with her, but Hank and Dr. Grey wouldn’t let her.” Max didn't even stop to discuss the matter. He raced out of the kitchen like a shot. I waved at the empty doorway, “Later, dude,” I looked to Cammo, “You don’t think he has anything to worry about do you?” Cammo sighed, looking to his sandwich. "I think he does." “Well shit,” I sighed, hopping off the counter, “Here I thought things were settling down.” "Look, I'd like to give you some cheery prediction, but when Cassie's like this... when her powers are used for attack..." He gulped, looking a little pale. "It doesn't matter how strong you are, or how fit you are. You can't fight water." I went and squeezed his shoulder, “Just like Bruce Lee always said. And Cam, I’m… I’m not saying this to be mean, but I’m glad you’re out of there right now.” He looked to me with a worried look. "So am I. I just don't look forward to going down there and seeing Max or Sarah in the mess I was in." I sort of smiled, “I don’t think I could handle that again, hopefully I won’t have to.” Cameron nodded silently.
Poster: nacey Posted on: 2:56 pm on Oct. 23, 2002 I didn't even stop to think. I ran, claws clacking against the smooth polished floors of the mansion, skidding every once in a while. I bashed in Logan's code and the damned elevator wasn't fast enough. I growled, my claws twitching, the only thing going through my mind was 'What the FUCK did Sarah think she was doing?!' The door finally opened and I raced down to the infirmary, shouting her name and screaming on the top of my lungs. "SARAH!" I cried. "STOP! DON'T!" I slid into the infirmary and headed for the isolation chamber. Jean was there, as was Hank, and they were all standing stock still like a bunch of mindless morons. I lost it. I saw red - I literally saw RED. I burst forward, claws slashing, throwing myself against the glass. "SARAH GET OUT!!" She didn't move from the spot in the center of the cell where she was watching Cassie intently. "Cassie's in here Max. I can't leave her." I grit my teeth. "You *saw* what she did to Cammo! You *can't* help her! Let Xavier do his job just - get the fuck out of there!!" Sarah bit her lip and glanced between Cassie quietly sobbing in the corner and Max raging outside the cell. "Cassie didn't hurt Cameron. Hyrda did and she's quiet now." I sighed. God damn it. She has to give a shit about people at the *worst* opportunity. "Okay, that's - that's great. Sare, out of control mutants are really risky, okay? Just - please - get out of there. Let people who know what they're doing help her, okay? I want Cassie to be better too but I don't want to lose you. Please, please get out of there." Sarah nodded. "Cass, I'm gonna go for a little while, but I'll be back. Okay? You're stronger. I'll see you soon," she said moving slowly toward the door, never taking her eyes off Cassandrea. I sighed with such relief. She stepped towards the door, eyeing Cassie, who just shuddered in the corner like a frightened kitten. It was a huge mess, all of it, and I felt tears prick my eyes. Sarah stepped out of the booth and Jean sighed too, putting a hand on my arm. "Thank you," she said under her breath. I just nodded and raced to Sarah, embracing her tightly. "Oh God, Sarah... don't scare me like that again, baby." "I'm ok, Max. I'm fine. She- That was probably the stupidest thing I've ever done. I - " I pulled back and I could see tears welling in here eyes. "I thought I could control her. I thought I could talk to her. No one was talking *to* her." "We can still talk to her okay? Just out here... out here." Sarah sniffled. "She so alone in there, Max. Everbody hates her." "I don't hate her, Sarah. And I don't think Cammo does either, okay?" I stroked her hair, pressing my lips together. "Wanna stay with her a while?" "Could we? Please?" I smiled softly, nodding and squeezing her shoulder. "Of course. She's our friend." "And yelling at me will give Jean something to do," she added with a tentatively wry smile. Jean smirked, rolling her eyes and nodding. I shrugged and sighed, and I knew that these two wouldn't ever get along without a considerable amount of grousing between them. It was one of those things, I guessed (like Cyke and Wolverine). For now, Hank got us some chairs and we sat down in front of the isolation chamber. We decided we were going to be there for some time. (Edited by nacey at 10:23 pm on Oct. 23, 2002)
Poster:Amezri Posted on: 12:36 am on Oct. 26, 2002 Sarah and Max had been sitting in uncomfortable lab chairs for hours. This was not where Sarah wanted to be, but there was no way Max would let her go back in there. The only option left was to just sit and watch as Cassandrea cowered in a corner, mumbling to herself. "They want to help me," Cassie said suddenly. Sarah leaned forward, pressing her hand against the glass. "We all want to help you. Just let the Professor and Jean do their thing." Cassie jerked her head to the side. "I won't go back to her." Sarah snorted. "I don't blame you. But she and the Professor are the only ones who can help, Cass." "Get away from me!" she screamed, causing Sarah to jump back. "She isn't talking to you," Kurt said quietly from behind them. ~~~~~ "Do you see them? Sitting there. Watching you like a caged animal. That's all you are to them." "They want to help me." "You think so?" Hydra sneered. "There is only one person who can help you." "I won't go back to her." "You will. You'll go crawling back to the White Queen and I'm here to make sure you do." "Get away from me!" ~~~~~ Kurt crouched on the ground besides Max. "Professor Xavier's on his way down," he continued in a solemn tone. "He says he's going to try again." He swallowed hard as his gaze travelled to the broken girl in the isolation cell. She was still curled up in the corner, fists covering her face. "He won't be able to help her."
Poster: Amezri Posted on: 6:39 pm on Oct. 26, 2002 OOC: This post is written in Kurt's POV. Heh, sorry about the bitterness. Professor Xavier arrived as promised, but I doubted that he would be of any help. Cassie was too far gone, too deep in her mind. If there was a way out, it would be up to her. {Still, it cannot hurt to try. We musn't give up, Kurt,} the Professor said to me. I sighed. I wouldn't give up on Cassie; I love her. This method, however, was not working and it only seemed to hurt her. "You and Sarah should go," I said quietly. Max stood, pulling Sarah up with him. The younger girl moved to protest, but the sad look in my eyes was enough to quell her. Sarah nodded in understanding and the pair left. "You should leave as well, Kurt," Jean said. I shook my head. /Someone should be here to stop him./ "I want to be here." "Let us begin, then," the Professor said, very business like. He wheeled over to Cassandrea's cage - for that's all it was to me. It wasn't there to protect her - it was there to protect *them*. "Cassandrea," he said softly, trying to catch her attention. "Cassandrea, it's Professor Xavier. Jean and I are going to try to help you. Do you understand?" Would you stop if she didn't? He continued the ridiculous formality. "We are going to enter you mind. Please, drop your barriers and let us in." I knew they had begun their probbing even before he said anything. Don't let them fool you. Telepaths tell you that a scan doesn't hurt. That's true if it's only a passing scan or you have no mental barriers, but if they have to break in? Well, the feeling is less than pleasant. Emma Frost had messed Cassandrea up pretty good, even had the forethought to train my zauberin to keep mental barriers up no matter what. I watched numbly as they dug deeper into her mind. Cassie started to whimper, thrashing her head and covering her ears in pain. She was rambling again. At first I couldn't make it out, but soon it was quite clear what she was saying - she wanted them to stop. "Professor, stop. You're hurting her." Jean waved me off. "We've got it under control, Kurt. We're almost there." Cassandrea was screaming now. She sounded like an animal - wounded and wishing for death. "Nein," I grunted, grabbing at both of them. "You will stop now!" Before I could stop them, Hank was suddenly there, dragging me away. Idiot. I teleported, leaving him with an armful of sulfer gas. "You claim you want to help her!" I raged. "But look at her! Look what you're doing to her!" They didn't seem to hear me. Correction - they didn't *want* to hear me. I stood helpless for a brief second. Cassie's screaming drew my attention once again. It was different now - more primal, less pain. I knew what was coming, it had happened twice before, but this time I kept my mouth shut. They deserved it, didn't they? Jean's head was the first to snap back. She fell to the floor - still conscious. Professor Xavier slapped a hand to his head, squinting against the pain. "I warned you not to try that again!" Hydra roared. "You think you can use the girl's weakness to expose me? To drive me out? You underestimate her own abilities." Yeah, that's what I've been trying to tell them. "You only hurt her, you know? And though I have no love for this girl, the hurt you cause her weakens me. Do not try that again, Xavier," Hydra sneared. She collapsed to the ground, water pouring out and swirling around the cell, obscuring our view. It seemed Hydra was at least providing Cassie with some privacy to recover. Hank helped Jean to her feet as she wiped at a spot of blood that trickled from her nose. Xavier moved slowly away from the cell. "Perhaps," he seemed to squeak, "perhaps it would be best if we retired for the evening." No shit.
