Cameron was currently flipping through the stack of CDs I had placed in his lap with the order of "Pick one."

"Zebra head, New Found Glory, Violent Femms, Dexter Danger, Pink Floyd.... Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks?"

"You have a problem with country?" I asked, tapping my fingers questioningly on the wheel.

"Yes. It starts with boot-scooting, goes on from there."

"And what do you consider 'quality' music?"

"Anything with more than four chord changes, my friend," he answered with a pompous look.

"Just stop picking on my country and grab something else," I gave him the evil eye. I like country, sue me; it’s not like it’s all I listen to but it’s better than anything on MTV.

He finally decided on Pink Floyd Live, and over the strains of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" he asked, "Where are we going anyway?"

"Shopping. It is going to be getting cold soon, and I mean really cold, I don’t have clothes that can handle that sort of weather," I explained. "That, and Halloween is soon and I don’t have a costume."

"What do you want to be?"

"I’m pretty sure I'm going to be a Ninja Turtle, but then I have to pick which one. Have you decided?"

"An Army guy, you know with the camouflage and all, it’ll be a joke," he replied.

"How creative."

"Oh, and picking a costume from the characters on your bed spread is?" he shot back.

I just waved off his comment, "Hush now, and point me towards stores."

OOC: Sorry it's taken me a while to post. It's really weird, writing Nightcrawler and imagining Alan Cummings in his role. Weird!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I must say, I was rather enjoying getting to know Annie. It was a change from the daily slog of learning to be an X-Man, and she was a lot of fun.
We strolled leisurely towards the automatic doors at the entrance of the mall. We were just stepping in as they were opening when a familiar young fellow with brown jawlength hair bustled past, light eyes blazing in worry.
"Kurt," I said, grabbing for his arm but missing him.
Kurt swung around, narrowing his eyes at me. He didn't say anything, but with that look on his face, he really didn't have to. Utter panic and worry. That's all that I could feel for a moment as I saw his expression, and within a moment he had bamphed from the spot, a small cloud of sulphur disappating in front of us.
Annie looked to me, lifting a brow. "Is that sort of thing normal?"
"Shit! Where'd the little fuzzer go?"
I turned, nearly running into Jubilee as she bolted from the mall. "Jubes!"
She glanced to me and sighed. "Cammo! Why didn't you stop him?"
"He kinda disappeared," I said.
Jubes covered her mouth in worry and looked to Sarah. Sarah was busy scowling at Annie and ignoring me entirely. I'd not really talked to Sarah before but I know I haven't done anything to warrant the response I was getting from her. Thing was, she was Max's girlfriend, and Max and I were good mates. Max is a decent fellow with a good head on his shoulders, and I know he wouldn't fall in with any old bint so Sarah had to be a good sort. I guess I'd have to think about ironing things out with Sarah another time... whatever the fuck I did.
Jubilee is babbling at me now, something about Cassie and answering machines and morning dates and Cassie again - Cassie missing?
"Cassie is missing?" I said, clutching her shoulders. She growled with some exasperation.
"No!" she retorted, "I just stood here blathering away at you about her not being where she should be for a LAUGH!"
"Where's Kurt going?" I asked her.
"To Wolverine," Sarah said stoicly.
"Right," I nodded and looked to Annie apologetically. "Annie... I have to help them. Are you okay with that?"
Being a mutant sure made things a little extraordinary. You go to the mall for routine shopping and run into a blue furry guy who disappears with a *poof*. Then you find out that, apparently Poof guy’s girlfriend is missing, and this isn’t the first time.
And then Cameron feels bad when he wants to go help, "Go, go. I have my car; I found my way to Xavier’s the first time I can do it again. Go help your friend."
They left in a rush and I was standing alone in the entrance of the mall, wondering where to go first. It didn’t take long to decide on the toy store. Lucky for me it was with in eyesight and I didn’t have to wander around for ages.
I did feel kind of bad, letting them all run off to save Cassie, I don’t know her that well, but I don’t even know my own roommate. Of course, Angelica’s in some traveling symphony for a while so I haven’t actually met her yet.
And it's not like I'd be all that useful, unless they needed someone to reach real high, even then I might not be able to do it real well. Sarah wouldn't want me there anyway, so why should I worry.
I was finally in the toy store, so I picked up a little stuffed hamster and squeezed its paw, immediately it started singing in a high voice "Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting" and swinging a little knun-chuck.
I had to smile, these things were the coolest, and there were more hamsters on the table.
*
After about an hour I bought one of each kind, I couldn’t not get one, leaving him all by himself... With my bag I ventured out into the rest of the mall looking for anything interesting.
Years of having the General and others scream at me was good for one thing: I don’t flinch. Not even with a furious Wolverine yelling at me. But I have stood here getting chewed out for something that isn’t my fault long enough. "Are you quite finished, sir?" I guess that growl is a ‘yes’. At this point I really don’t care. "Cassie is a grown woman and may come and go as she pleases. I did nothing wrong. She came in last night and left again. There was no phone call, no struggle. Her things were all in place and she took her purse. It appeared that she went out of her own free will."
Logan ran a hand through his hair. "You’re right. It isn’t you’re fault. You have any idea of where she might have gone?"
I thought for a second, but truth was, I really didn’t know Cass well enough to even guess where she might have gone. "None, sir."
"What are we going to do?" Kurt asked, pausing his pacing.
"Has anyone checked her computer?" Jubilee asked. "She certainly spends a lot of time on it. Maybe there’s a clue in there or one of her online friends might know where she’s gone."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kitty’s hands flew across the keyboard, windows opening and closing faster that we could even begin to see what they said. "Uh oh."

"What is it?"

"She wiped everything. Every file, all her email, her history, temp files. Everything. Even the hidden files. Whatever she’s gone, she went though an awful lot of trouble to hide her tracks."

All schools seemed to share the same recipe book, Cassandrea sighed as she picked at her lunch. /I wonder what the others are doing. Jubes probably dragged Kitty with her to the mall again,/ she thought with a smile.

{Nevermind them,} Emma projected with a cold glance. {When you've finished, I have something for you upstairs.}

Finishing the bland food on her way too expensive plate, Cassie rose from the table and followed Ms. Frost to the upstairs office. Rubbing her sore arm, she hoped that this wasn't another training excercise.

"It isn't." Emma opened the door and waved her student inside. She had scanned Cassandrea when she first arrived and among other things, the telepath discovered that the young girl was quite skilled in the area of computers. Emma herself hated the machines, but if that was what it took for Cassandrea to think of the Hellfire Mansion as home, she could spare the money to set it up.

"This...this is for me?" Cassie glanced around the room, wide-eyed. The room was a computer geek's dream. A top of the line CPU tower sat humming on the desk, its custom designed case seemed to be glowing; next to it was a 19-inch plasma screen. Kitty would have had a field day - if she didn't accidentally phase through everything and destroy it. Opposite this setup was a G4 with a 21-inch cinema display. "Dual processor?" she squeaked.

Emma nodded. "Of course. The..." Emma hesitated, not enjoying the fact that she needed help. "Man at the store said that these would be sufficient. If they are not, please inform me and we shall return them immediately."

Cassandrea squealed happily. "No! These are great! Perfect!" She ran to embrace Ms. Frost, but immediately thought better of it. "Thank you, Ms. Frost. I, um, I wiped my computer at Xavier's before I left and I was starting to miss having one."

{You do realize you haven't been gone a day,} she said, cocking an eyebrow. Catching the flash of embrassment, Emma quickly changed the subject. {You may have some time to inspect your new equipment. We will resume your training at four o'clock sharp. Understood?}

"Yes, Ms. Frost." Cassie was already seated at the PC station, looking through the root directories and system properties. She was thrilled to discover that the computers were on a broadband internet connection. Emma slipped out of the room quietly, a megawatt smile plastered to her face.

Jubilee started pacing, running her fingers through her hair and looking panicked. "Okay so she's missing, really really missing..." She stopped and clutched Wolverine's front, glaring right into his eyes. "WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO US?!"

Wolverine removed Jubilee's hands from his shirt and picked her up and put her down about one foot away from him. "I don't *know*, Slick, but yellin' in my face isn't gonna get us anywhere."

Rogue ran a finger over her lip in thought. "She planned this," she said. "What we gotta try to figure out is why she would run away, and where she would run away to."

"Great!" Jubes threw her hands in the air. "There's some information we can just pull right out of my ass!"

Kitty snorted and glowered at the panicking girl in yellow. "Jubes, quit it will you? Let's try to be constructive here. Sarah... have you noticed Cassie taking any particular interest in anything lately? Any kind of transportation, and road maps?" She looked to Wolverine then. "Logan, do you think it would be too late to take a sniff about town?"

Logan shrugged. "I dunno. I guess I could give it a try." He grabbed Max and tugged him by the shoulder. "Come on, Fuzzball."

"Who're you callin' Fuzzball?" I muttered.

I don’t know if they believe that I haven’t noticed anything or not. I don’t really care. It’s not that I’m not worried about Cass; I am, but until she calls or someone finds something out, I’m not going to be much help. I’d do better to sit by her phone and stay out of everyone’s way.

The hall was quiet for a change so I figured I should try to read the book Ms. Munroe assigned. In four months, I hadn’t found a quiet place anywhere in this building. Trying to ignore all the vibrations and noise from 200 plus people was really hard, especially when there were no regulations on how loud you could play your stereo.

I’ve given up even trying to study when Annie’s in. If I ask her to turn it down, she does, and five minutes later she cranks it higher than it was before.

I’ve caught myself fantasizing about throwing open her door and putting a couple of slugs in each speaker and CD player. I won’t do it. Well... I probably won’t do it, but it’s a nice thought.

I only had to read the first couple of chapters of The Catcher in the Rye for Monday, but once I started reading, I really wanted to finish it. I had to finish it. It was like, dunno reading about myself. I thought teachers just assigned these horrid books to torture us, but this one was neat. I just hoped everyone would stay gone long enough for me to finish.

Time flew by as Cassie checked her various e-mail accounts. She really wanted to sign on to Instant Messenger, but couldn't risk it. She and Kitty had quite a few friends in common and Cassie didn't want anyone finding out where she was.

Not until she was ready to go back.

Right now though, it was time for more training. Cassandrea sighed as she made her way to the lower level facility. /Five minutes early,/ she smiled. The students at Xavier's thought Logan was as tough as they came, but they hadn't met Emma Frost. Frost might as well have been her nickname. Cassie had never trained so hard in her life - and she was just getting started.

But that's why she was here. To train hard; to work the weakness out of herself. If she could just be like Emma... no, not like Emma. Like Rogue. Rogue was the toughest X-Man next to the Wolverine and it wasn't just the deadly skin. She had the attitude; knew how to take care of herself and other people. She could kick ass with the rest of them. Cassie had an active power and she still couldn't take out the bad guys without some magical assistance.

"We'll be working on that issue this afternoon," Emma said with a curt nod. "This way, please."

Cassie followed her new instructor to a large room that looked a lot like the Danger Room.

{The design principles are the same.} "Your file indicates that Ororo Munroe has been.. teaching you." She paused, as if waiting for Cassie to confirm it, but then continued, "The Weather Witch can barely keep her own powers in check. She was never qualified to help you." {But I am.}

Emma Frost watched as her pupil - the first since she lost her Hellions - struggled to control the orb of water she had created. Cassandrea's first task had been to create the globule, deconstruct it, and recreate it again. That was over an hour ago. "You may stop. Please vaporize the orb."

Cassandrea stared at her blankly. "Vaporize...?"

"Yes," Emma frowned. "Vaporize. Make liquid into gas. Make the water disappear. You do know how to do that?"

"Um... well, no... I mean, I don't think I can even do that."

"If I tell you to do something, rest assured that you are capable of it. Otherwise it would be a waste of time for me to make such a demand. So, vaporize the orb."

"Uhm..." Cassie just looked at her blankly.

Emma sighed. "Focus on the orb. See the liquid flowing before you." The blond began to slowly circle the hydromancer, switching her instruction from speech to telepathy. {See past each drop of liquid. See the molecules that combine to form water. They are moving sowly. Move them. Make them move faster, until the liquid reaches a gaseous state.}

/This is similar to magic,/ Cassie thought. /I can do this./ She visualized the molecules, just as Emma instructed, willing them to move faster and faster, spinning out of control like she imagined the molecules of a gas would.

As the grapefruit-sized orb in Cassandrea's hand began to give off small tendrils of vapor, Emma smilied softly. The girl definitely had potential. In a month, she would be a deadly asset to the new team of Hellions.

"Miss Frost!" Cassie shreaked as the orb of water began to stretch and bubble in her hands. Emma turned in time to catch a large splash of water in her face as the orb exploded. "Oh gods! Lo siento, maestra! I am so sorry! I didn't know--"

Emma wiped her face and held up her hand. "It's all right. You did quite well today, despite this set back. We shall try again tomorrow. Supper is in an hour. Don't be late."

I grabbed a bag up off the floor and began sorting my new clothes. I hadn't really gotten much that would be good for snow type weather, but the extra long sleeves, sweatshirts and jeans would last until I figured out what people wore in the snow...

With everything put away and the hamsters strategically placed around the room I grabbed at box of hair dye sitting on top of the dresser, "Nuclear Green- glows under black light!"

I took off my shirts; I only wanted my hair green, not my clothes, and head into the bathroom with my egg timer.

"Ugh," I always hate this part, having to sit with sticky drippy hair for twenty minutes before rinsing it out.

I walked precariously out towards the stereo, careful not to stain the carpet, and turned on some music. Naturally, the timer went off the second my favorite song came on, so I cranked up the music and started up the shower.

"I just need to feeeeel, how does it feel, to crush the world in two, one last time, because I'm so wasteeeeed. To feel how does it feel, to scream with out a sound, one more time because I'm still wasteeeeed," I don't feel the need to curse humanity by singing in public, so the shower is the only place that had to suffer.

The water by the drain was starting to run clear so I shut off the water and grabbed a dark towel and wrapped it around my wet hair, then I pulled on my XXXL Earnheardt T-shirt, still tossing my head to the music.

"I swear this shirt use to be longer..." I commented to the gigolo hamster on top of the speakers. Our enthralling conversation was cut short by a knock at the door.

"Pinky's Pizzeria, what can I do for you today?" I asked opening the door. Sarah didn't seem to appreciate the humor; I just don't understand that girl.

"Do you mind turning that crap down. I was trying to read," she asked in a tone that suggested it wasn't exactly a request.

"Hello, Annie would you be ever so kind as to turn down one of your favorite CDs, I'm trying to read," I rephrased, "Sure thing Sarah, I know how thin these walls can seem."

I think the chemicals from the hair dye were sinking into my brain, wouldn't be the fist time it was rumored happen. Sarah, on the other hand looked a little nauseous, I suppose this stuff might smell a tad unpleasant to someone who hasn't quite adapted the way I have, after five years of habitual use.

She had sealed her mouth shut, so I wound up our jaunty interaction, "It's been swell having you stop by, we absolutely must do this again sometime."

I swung the door shut, and turned down the music. I was halfway done drying my hair when "Number One Crush" started to play. It's just one of those songs that can't be played at the volume I had it at, and I could hardly hear over the noise of the blow dryer. So I moved back towards the dial and cranked it up a few notches and started to sing again.

It wasn't the shower but I was still in the bathroom.

It didn't take long for Wolverine to throw a helmet my way and haul me onto his motorbike. It was a bit weird, sharing the bike with Logan, cause I had to hold on around his waist and I so didn't get a kick out of that.

"Need to get a moped," Wolverine growled into the mic of his helmet intercom. "Or we could get you a motorbike too."

"Fuck off!" I cried back at him. "You know how I feel about high speeds."

"Intimately," Logan said. "Your claws are gonna pop through the gloves and make pretty holes in my any second."

"Sorry..."

Logan lifted his visor as he slowed down, sniffing the air. We drove round in circles, drove around malls and walkways where our lot frequented. As we went he'd mutter this and that to me, telling me what he was doing, teaching me in his trade. He was teaching me how to use my powers... how to be like him.

Overhead, the Blackbird shot past. I knew lots of our kids were on the street today, gathering information. The net was out, trying to acquire our lost pupil. When Xavier loses someone, he doesn't stop till he makes sure they choose to be lost. And even then he keeps a tabs on them.

If I wasn't for the fact that Xavier was as good an egg as they come, it'd be creepy.
